Construction of standard garage for artisanal workers, underway in Sunyani

Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area has performed ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a standard industrial site project for the relocation of mechanics and artisanal workers at the Sunyani main garage.

The construction of the site, Sompa FM learnt followed the ejection mechanics from the Sunyani main garage to the new site at Watchman along the Sunyani- Atronie Road.

Reports indicate that the National Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) had given the mechanics whose shops are directly under the NEDCo's transmission

lines at the Sunyani main garage enclave.

Accordingly, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II donated 100 acres of land for the construction of the industrial site.

Speaking at a ceremony at Watchman in the Sunyani Municipality, the Paramount



Chief suggested the need for the construction of police and fire posts, a bank and a clinic at the site to attend to the mechanics.

He advised the mechanics and their apprentices to stay away from drugs and alcoholism and to build a better future for themselves, saying that the Sunyani main garage had over 3,000 artisanal workers whose activities could tackle unemployment and boost economic growth.



Mr Seid Mubarak, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East pledged to support the construction of the site, and assuring that plans were underway for the construction of the Sunyani Inner City Road construction project to commence.


Mr Francis Nomo Tetteh, the Director of Communications of the National Association of Garages thanked Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II for the project and urged government support towards building electric vehicle training centre at the site too
