Mr Issah Baffoe, the Sunyani West Municipal Director of Education has confirmed that the chiefs of Kobedi in the Municipality are to perform some rituals to pave way for the re-opening of the Kobedi AME Zion Basic School.

He explained that Nana Ameyaa Ansu Gyeabour I, the queen-mother of the town in the Bono Region ordered the closure of the school, directing the teachers to stay home, until the rituals were performed to revoke a curse against the school.

The performance of the rituals followed the demise of two headmasters, after a community member, who claimed spiritual ownership, allegedly invoked curses on any head of the school, Sompa FM learnt.
Accordingly, the teachers have since Monday May 18 abandoned classes with the classrooms locked with padlocks as the community linked the deaths, which happened between December 2025 and April 2026 to the curse.

Speaking to Ama Konadu on the Monday Thursday edition of the Sunyani-based Sompa FM “Adea Akye Abia” morning show, Mr Baffoe explained that the reasons for the alleged curses remained unknown for now, saying that the directorate could not linked the deaths to the curse.

Mr Baffoe assured that the school would be reopened on Monday May 25, saying that it was untrue that the teachers had resolved to abandon classes.
