The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has launched this year’s International Nurses Day celebration with a renewed call to empower nurses, save lives, and strengthen support systems for healthcare professionals across the country.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Health Minister, Dr. Grace Ayensu described it as disheartening to witness both healthcare providers and patients struggling to access specialized treatment and support.
According to her, President John Dramani Mahama remains committed to improving the welfare of nurses through policies aimed at expanding free primary healthcare services and creating more employment opportunities within the health sector.
Dr. Ayensu further emphasized that the role of nurses in national development cannot be overlooked, stressing that their skills, dedication, and sacrifices deserve recognition and respect in society.
She added that healthcare challenges require collective efforts and should never be politicized, urging stakeholders to work together to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare delivery system.
In addition, the Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Kurt Nawaane pledged his support to Ghanaian nurses and urged them to exercise patience when attending to patients, regardless of their attitudes or behaviour.
This year’s International Nurses Day celebration focuses on promoting the welfare of nurses while recognizing their vital contributions to saving lives and improving healthcare nationwide.
