The government has inaugurated the National Trade Policy Review Committee, aiming to strengthen trade and business activities across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Mr. Bernard Ayensu, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME), said the committee will review existing trade policies and recommend strategies to support local industries, increase exports, and create jobs for Ghanaians.
“Trade is a major driver of economic growth,” Mr. Ayensu noted, emphasizing the importance of the review in addressing challenges such as fragmenting global trade and commodity dependence.

The committee is expected to engage with traders, manufacturers, farmers, and the private sector before submitting its final report.

Key priority actions include rationalizing the levy regime, ensuring compliance with fisheries subsidies, developing a 2030-ready digital trade framework, leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area secretariat advantage, and promoting gender-responsive, MSME-inclusive trade initiatives.
