Personnel of the Agona Swedru Fire Station in the Central Region have rounded up a week long International Firefighters Day commemoration with a coin laying ceremony.
The Command commenced the celebration on Monday by lowering the service flag to half mast to honor fallen heroes, followed by a radio and public sensitization and a float through the principal street of Agona Swedru.
DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, the Agona Swedru Municipal Fire Service Commander, addressing personnel on the importance of the day, reminded personnel of the sacrifice of late fire officer, ADOII Joseph Baidoo, who died after rescuing two people from a well. Describing it as true patriotism and sacrifice that should not be forgotten but honored.
Touching on the theme, the Commander appealed to the public to rather report any unsatisfied behavior or service by fire personnel at the Station, instead of resorting to physical and verbal abuse.
He also thanked traditional authorities of Agona Swedru for standing by firefighters, having issued a warning to the public last year to keep their hands off fire personnel and their equipments should agitation erupt in their quality of service.
Present were Prison and Immigration Services representatives who show solidarity with the fire personnel.
The International Firefighters Day is observed every year to honour and appreciate the sacrifices of fire personnel towards security and safe environment for development.
