The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team of operational officers, supported by armoured vehicles, to the towns of Gushegu and Karaga following recent clashes in the area.

The move, according to a statement sighted at the official Facebook page of the Ghana Police Service, is aimed at strengthening security and restoring calm in the affected communities.

The reinforcement team is expected to work closely with personnel of the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols, maintain law and order, and prevent any further escalation of violence in the towns and surrounding areas.

A police statement noted, “The deployment of additional personnel and armoured assets is to ensure heightened security presence and reassure residents as we work to maintain peace and stability in Gushegu, Karaga, and adjoining communities.”

Police say the deployment forms part of broader efforts to ensure the safety of residents and protect property, while also reassuring the public of the Service’s commitment to peace and stability.

Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and provide credible information that could assist in maintaining calm in the area.

The Ghana Police Service has also reiterated its readiness to respond swiftly to any emerging threats as it works to sustain peace in the Northern Region.
