Maame Abena Yarko, 74-year-old cocoa farmer and a native of Kukuom in the Asunafo South District of the Ahafo Region has taken a swipe at the Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Minister for deceiving cocoa farmers to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Election 2024.

She said the cocoa farmers in the area were persuaded and voted for the NDC in the last Elections because of the ‘juicy’ promises Mr Opoku, also their Member of Parliament made to them during the electioneering.

Maame Yarko told the media at Kukuom during a visit by Minority Caucus in Parliament to the area, that minister convinced the cocoa farmers that the previous administration was massaging the prices of cocoa.

She said the minister persuaded them to vote for the NDC, saying that it was only an NDC government that could make the cocoa sector more attractive and to better the economic livelihoods of the farmers.

“But now it is clear that our MP has deceived us and we can’t even see him here after his government reduce the cocoa price”, the aged woman stated, and urging explanations and apologies from the MP.

Some of the aggrieved cocoa farmers also expressed their frustrations on the cocoa price reduction and delay of government payment.
