Some major rural communities in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region have appealed for extension of telecommunication services to improve their socio-economic conditions.
According to the residents of Kwampim, Zezera, Adiokor No 1, Adiako No 2, and Kofitiakrom, all farming communities in the area, the absence of the telecommunication network had cut them from the rest of the world.
During a visit to the area, they told Sompa FM that the absence of the mobile phone networks in the area had slowed down business growth, with students unable to participate fully in the emerging digital world.
Mr Augustine Boateng, an opinion leader in the area, described the situation as unfortunate and called for the intervention of the government in helping them communities to access digital services.
He expressed worry that the deprived communities were denied access to quality healthcare, education and emergency communication, breaching their fundamental human rights and dignity.
Mr Boateng said the communities were experiencing rapid population growth, saying that accessing telecommunication network would open up the communities for investments.
