The Chief of Ankaful in the Cape Coast Metropolis in the Central Region, Nana Obura Asankoma lll, has issued a strong warning to residents and commercial drivers against reckless riding and driving during burial and funeral processions, describing the practice as dangerous and unlawful.

‎Nana Obura Asankoma lll speaking at a ceremony held in celebration of his 40th anniversary enthroned as chief of Ankaful, he stressed that the increasing trend of stunt riding by Pragya (motorized tricycles) operators and speeding taxis during such solemn occasions poses a serious threat to lives and property and thus banned to ever repeat itself on his land.

‎The directive comes amid growing concerns over accidents and near-misses recorded during funeral processions in the area.

‎“Funerals are meant to honour the dead, not to endanger the living,” the Chief cautioned at the ceremony.

‎The Ankaful chief urged residents, especially youth groups and commercial riders to prioritize safety and respect the dignity of burial rites, warning that offenders will not only face traditional sanctions but may also be handed over to law enforcement agencies to face the law as established, adding that road safety laws apply at all times, including during funerals.

‎Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta ll, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, upon gracing the occasion, expressed joy for the celebration and encouraged the populace to leave in unity.

‎Osabarimba again urged the people of Ankaful to respect and support authorities to foster development and personal growth as a community.

‎Rt. Rev. Bishop Richardson Aboagye Andam, the Methodist Arch-Diocesan Bishop for Cape Coast who doubles as Chairman for the Central Regional Peace Council addressed that chieftaincy is a sacred identity design to shape our lives for development, since it underscore the people's heritage. Thus, the need to preserve and protect it as it has been done since bible days.
