The Director of Media for Peace and Sustainable Development Programme at the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Dr. Kojo Impraim, has called on journalists to remain focused on their core mandate to hold leadership accountable, urging them to ignore personal attacks and distractions that seek to derail their work.

‎According to Dr. Impraim, the media plays a critical role in strengthening democracy, and this responsibility must not be compromised by intimidation, criticism, or attempts to discredit the effort of journalists in holding duty bearers under scrutiny.

‎He emphasized that while attacks on media practitioners may be inevitable, they should not deter journalists from pursuing truth and serving the public's interest.

‎Dr. Impraim made this assertion at a three-day capacity-building for media practitioners drawn across Ghana on Data Journalism and Fact-Checking from Tuesday, 24th to Thursday, 26th February 2026, in Accra.

‎“Journalists must not be distracted by attacks. The focus should remain on uncovering the truth and ensuring that those in positions of authority are held accountable,” he noted at the final day of the training session

‎Dr. Impraim encouraged media houses to invest in investigative journalism and provide adequate support for reporters undertaking in-depth stories. He stressed that credible investigations, backed by evidence, remain the most effective way to counter corruption and build public trust.

‎Kweku Lartey Obeng, the Component Manager for PAIReD Project under GIZ-Ghana, Kweku Lartey Obeng, also eulogized the benefit of the training to media practitioners selected for the workshop.

‎He highlighted that journalists through the training have had their capacity equipped on how to identify fine opportunities, how to approach media development and press freedom as well as how to position their work for support. Mr. Lartey Obeng further urged the media to apply the knowledge gained from the training and actively pursue the opportunities introduced to them.
