The Bono Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 24 suspects and the recovery of eight assorted weapons following a special joint security operation at Sampa in the early hours of March 21, 2026.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Police Service, the intelligence-led operation was conducted in collaboration with the 3rd Infantry Battalion and the Bureau of National Intelligence.
The operation, aimed at ridding the area of illegal arms and criminal elements, led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Baikal gun, two locally manufactured firearms, and 790 rounds of AAA and BB cartridges.
Other items seized included machetes, bayonets, military uniforms, mobile phones, motorbikes, and assorted offensive implements.
Police also confirmed that two of the suspects were arrested for breaching curfew regulations, while the remaining individuals are being held for various alleged offences linked to unlawful possession of weapons.
“All the suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, and efforts are underway to prepare them to face prosecution,” the statement said.
The Command emphasized that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the Bono Region and clamp down on rising criminal activity.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, urged the public to support law enforcement agencies.
“We call on the general public to continue to provide credible information that will aid in the arrest of persons in possession of illegal weapons as we work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents,” he stated.
