Police Seize 397 Slabs of Suspected Cannabis in Techiman

Police in the Bono East Region have seized 397 slabs of suspected cannabis following an accident involving a tricycle rider in Techiman.

According to a press release issued by the Bono East Regional Police Command on March 10, 2026, the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Robert Tannor, was arrested after police discovered the suspected narcotic substance concealed in bags of charcoal.

“The Bono East Regional Police Command on March 8 2026 at 14:00 hours arrested one Robert Tannor, age 48, a rickshaw rider (Aboboyaa) with 397 slabs of dried plant materials suspected to be cannabis,” the statement said.

Police explained that the incident came to light after officers received information about a road accident involving an unregistered Motor King tricycle near the Methodist Park in Techiman.

“At approximately 14:00 hours of 08/03/2026 police was informed of an accident involving an unregistered Motor King tricycle (Aboboyaa) ridden by Robert Tannor, 48, carrying 14 bags of charcoal near Techiman Methodist Park,” the statement signed by ASP Appiah Danquah, Staff Officer and Public Relations Officer for the Bono East Region said..

Investigations revealed that the tricycle had collided with a stationary Kia Rhino truck. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that the bags of charcoal were being used to conceal suspected cannabis.

“Police immediately responded to the accident scene and discovered compressed slabs of suspected cannabis concealed in the charcoal bags. A total of 397 slabs were retrieved from the scene,” the statement added.

The suspect sustained severe leg injuries during the accident and was taken to hospital under police guard.

“The suspect rider who sustained severe leg injuries was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Techiman for treatment and placed under police guard,” the police said.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Kia Rhino truck fled the scene after the crash. Police are appealing to the public to assist in locating the driver to aid investigations.

“The Kia Rhino sped off from the accident scene. The Police are therefore seeking the public's assistance in tracing the Kia Rhino truck driver to assist in Police investigation,” the release noted.
