Some residents of Asuyie and Aworowa in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region are appealing to the government and relevant agencies for urgent support after a devastating fire outbreak destroyed more than 60 acres of cashew and cocoa farms.

‎The incident, which occurred last Sunday, has left several farmers counting their losses, as the fire swept through large portions of farmlands, destroying mature cashew trees and cocoa farms that serve as the main source of livelihood for affected households.

‎According to the affected farmers, the extent of the destruction has plunged them into economic hardship, with some farmers losing years of investment and expected income for the season.

‎Affected farmers are therefore calling on the government, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to come to their aid with relief items, financial support, and measures to help them restore their farms.

‎The Assembly Member of Asuyie, Hon. Owusu Adamu, in an interview with the media, also appealed for increased public education on fire prevention, especially during the dry season, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

‎He further urged the government to accelerate the response process and provide timely support to the affected farmers to help them recover from their losses.

‎Meanwhile, the Techiman North District NADMO Director, Mr. Adamu Mohammed, has urged residents and the affected farmers to remain calm, stating that the damage has already been assessed and the incident duly reported to the appropriate authorities for further action.

‎He also cautioned the public against bushfires, stressing that the Assembly’s by-laws strictly prohibit such acts and offenders will be dealt with accordingly.

‎He further revealed that the Techiman North District Assembly has put measures in place to revamp fire volunteer groups across the district to strengthen fire prevention, early response, and Community.
