Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has warned that the rising chieftaincy disputes in the country are threatening national peace and stability.
He therefore implored traditional authorities and the various house of chiefs to be proactively in resolving the disputes.
Mr Ibrahim raised the concerns when he addressed a meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani.
He announced that the government had increased the quarterly sitting allowance of the judicial committees of the various house of chiefs from GHC30,000 to GHC50,000 effective April 1, 2026 just to motivate the committees to be expeditious in resolving chieftaincy disputes.
Mr Ibrahim highlighted the essential roles of chiefs’ and queens towards advancing progressive development, and commended the house for supporting the government to achieve its reset Ghana agenda.
He said the government had also increased the allowances of the chiefs by 300 percent and also paid all outstanding areas too.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs commended the government for increasing the monthly allowance for the chiefs.
He also used the event to congratulate the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his re-election as the Election 2028 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the just ended presidential primary of the party.
