The Bono Regional Police Command has assured the public of adequate security arrangements ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential primaries warning that any form of disorder at polling centres will be dealt with decisively.
The Bono Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, said the police will deploy sufficient personnel to all voting centres to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Akua Nyarko Abronoma, host of ‘Ghana Nkomo’ socio-political show on Sompa FM-Sunyani, he said each polling station will be manned by at least 70 police officers as part of measures to tighten security and prevent any disturbances.
“We will provide enough security at the voting centres. We will only work with the accredited persons from the party side that we know. Anyone who is not among them will not be allowed to get close to the polling stations,” Chief Inspector Akeelah stated.
He emphasized that the elections are strictly for accredited delegates and urged non-delegates to stay away from the voting centres.
“We expect only the delegates to come, vote, and leave peacefully. Anyone who is not part of the election has no business being around the centres,” he added.
Chief Inspector Akeelah further cautioned against violence and any acts that could disrupt the electoral process, stressing that the police will not tolerate misconduct.
“We do not want any conflict or violence during the elections. Anyone who comes around to cause problems at the polling stations will be arrested and made to face the law,” he warned.
He assured residents and party members that the police command has adequate manpower and logistics to maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
“We have enough men and logistics to control all the polling stations. Anyone who intends to cause trouble should advise themselves,” Chief Inspector Akeelah concluded.
The police have therefore called on all stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel to ensure a peaceful and successful election in the Bono Region.
