The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Yaw Owusu, also known as Angolo, for allegedly stabbing his younger brother to death at Awerempe, a suburb of Berekum West Municipality in the Bono Region.

‎According to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025, around 10:30 a.m.

‎The complainant, Nyanta Comfort, aged 40, a sister to the deceased reported to the police that a misunderstanding had ensued between the suspect and her brother, Bright Abotsi, 25. During the altercation, Owusu allegedly stabbed Abotsi in the chest with a knife. The misunderstanding ensued as a results of the suspect landlord, Yaw Owusu alleging that the deceased tenant Bright Abotsi had stolen his two phones.

‎The victim was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in Berekum for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officer on duty.

‎Police officers who visited the hospital observed the body of the deceased lying on a stretcher, dressed in coloured boxer shorts soaked with blood, with a deep cut on the right side of his upper chest.

‎However, the body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

‎The police say the suspect was arrested while attempting to flee the scene after the incident. He is currently in custody, and preparations are underway to arraign him before court.

‎Therefore, Chief Inspector Akeelah assured the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation.
