The Asante Youth Association (AYA) has criticized Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, over what it describes as disparaging remarks made about former Minister of State, Dr. Richard Winfred Anane.
In a statement issued on Thursday, AYA expressed disappointment over comments Abronye reportedly made on his television programme ‘The Evidence,’ describing them as “crude, disrespectful, and reckless.”
The group said the remarks were an unprovoked attack on Dr. Anane, who serves as a patron of the association.
AYA described Dr. Anane as a “distinguished statesman” and “a revered figure within Asanteman,” noting his long record of public service and contribution to Ghana’s political development.
The group said it found Abronye’s comments regrettable and inconsistent with the values of respect and discipline expected in public discourse.
“The Ashanti Region will not tolerate Abronye’s presence, manner of conduct, or brand of divisive politics within our political and cultural space,” the statement said. “The youth of Asanteman are committed to promoting politics of respect, ideas, and progress.”
The association further cautioned political parties, particularly the NPP, against including Abronye in campaign activities in the Ashanti Region, arguing that his style of politics “is inconsistent with the region’s cultural values and deep respect for leadership.”
AYA also urged the national leadership of the NPP to distance the party from Abronye’s comments and to address what it called a “growing culture of disrespect and disorder” within its ranks.
According to the group, such conduct has contributed to declining public goodwill towards the party and undermines efforts to maintain unity and discipline.
Meanwhile, the statement concluded with a call for respect toward figures who have served Asanteman and Ghana “with dignity,” saying, “Our heritage demands respect, and it shall be accorded.”
The statement was signed by Dr. Tweneboah Kodua, General Secretary of AYA, and Joseph Oppong Boadi, Vice President.
