Abusuapanyin of Amosima Nsona No.1 family and Proprietor of Golden Press Preparatory School in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District in the Central Region, Nana Kwesi Egyir XIV has added his bite to the country's menace on illegal mining (galamsey).
According to Nana Kwesi Egyir XIV, the government should exercise a firm stand in dealing with perpetrators of galamsey activities in Ghana.
The traditional ruler has implored government to identify galamsey operators as enemies to the country's development, judging the level of havoc their activity turns to have on Ghana's water bodies, forestry and human health.
Nana Kwesi Egyir hinted this at the maiden graduation and speech and prize giving day of his outfit, Golden Press Preparatory School at Amosima, celebrated on the theme "Success is Our Aim."
He appealed on government to regularize and further categorize small-scale miners into groups with stringent measures to check them from operating along river banks.
Adding that government should make it a need to rather introduce medium-scale mining to communities capable to offer safe lands for mining and are ready to adhere to all mining regulations in other to serve as means to protect the country's forest and water bodies as well as tackle the alarming rate of youth unemployment.
CRO Dr. Ebenezer Acquah-Bentil, Chairman for the occasion who is the Head of the Policy and Programmes Unit, Tema Collection of the GRA-Customs Division and a native of Amosima, underscored the poor road network of the area which has for decades hampered the development of the community and again hindered businesses to thrive in the locality.
He, however, chanced on the opportunity to plead on government to turn an eye on the poor road network of the Amosima community, which is well known for its rich production of fante kenkay.
