Tree For Life Project: Central Region Set To Plant 1,436,000 Trees According To Forestry Commission

The Central Regional Forestry Commission in the country's Tree For Life initiative is said to plant a number of 1,436,000 trees in this year's exercise.

This was disclosed at the launch of the project, jointly held by the Assin Fosu Forestry Commission, the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly and the Breman Asikuma  Senior High School(BASS) at the Breman Asikuma Senior High School.

Hon. Olivia Bentil, the District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District at the event, eulogized the importance of trees to the human life and the need for Ghanaians, particularly students to keep close eye on them when privileged to plant one, by feeding it regularly with water.

She again urged Ghanaian cocoa farmers to chance on the opportunity and plant other crops at their farm lands in other to have them harvest variety of crops, instead of wait all year around to harvest only cocoa.



The Assin Fosu District Manager for the Forestry Commission, Mr. Vitalis Tang in his address noted the Central Region to plant 1,436,000 trees, in which the Assin Fosu Forestry Commission which comprises of the Assin North, Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Assin South, Assin Central and the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa Districts will be planting 595,000 trees.

Nana Okofo Afful Nyankoe II, Kontihene of the Breman Traditional Area upon gracing the occasion on behalf of the Central Regional House of Chiefs President, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, implored government to go after individuals bent on degrading the country's forest reserves in search of gold.



He further quizzed to find out whose responsibility it is to nurture planted trees, since Ghana plant millions of trees each year, yet ends up having majority of these trees die-off.
