Mr Julius Nkansah Nyarko, the Senior Manager at Energy Commission has appealed for support towards the organization of the Commission's annual renewable energy challenge for Senior High Schools in the country.
He made the appeal in an interview with Sompa FM on the side-lines of this year's challenge held at the St James Seminary and Senior High School in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono region.
He said, "Energy Commission is committed to support the various Senior High Schools in the country with the needed resources to develop the research base of our students and to help them in critical thinking aspects."
Mr Nkansah Nyarko noted that, the students can come out with innovative ideas that will solve some problems faced by the country when their research based are developed.
"We call on companies who believe in research to support our objectives so that we can provide the needed resources to the students to the schools."
The objective of the challenge, according to Mr Nkansah Nyarko was to develop the research skills of Senior High Schools students and promote technological innovation in renewal energy and energy efficiency.
Mr Nkansah Nyarko also indicated that, the competition stood as a beacon of hope, helping to bridge the gap between academia and industry, adding that renewable energy was central to the nation’s energy transition and its overall social-economic development.
The Energy Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service is organized this year's Senior High Schools (SHS) Renewable Energy challenge at the Abesim St James Seminary and Senior High School in the Sunyani Municipality.
Competing schools include Sunyani SHS, St. James Seminary and SHS, Koase SHS, Dormaa SHS, Fiapre Notre Dame Girls SHS, Sacred Hearts SHS, Twene Amanfo SHS, Berekum SHS and Masin SHS.
According to Mr Gabriel Antwi, the Bono Regional Director of Education, the challenge at sustaining energy for a healthier future focusing on food security, waste management and health delivery.
In an interview with Sompa FM he said the event would also empower the students to apply the knowledge they had acquired.
He said it also sought to imbibe in the students' creative skills, and also inspire them to do research.
Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) won this year's challenge, beating St James Seminary and SHS, Dormaa SHS and others.
