Multiple award-winning Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has explained that his decision to build a paediatric emergency unit at the Manhyia District Hospital is driven by a desire to give back to the country that shaped him

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, April 7, the musician said the initiative is a personal legacy project as he approaches his 50th birthday.

“I think that for all that Ghana has given me, it will be fair to build a pediatric emergency unit at the Manhyia Hospital because that was where I got my postnatal service. I got my killer shots and things like that. Now that I am 50, what can I do as a legacy project?” he said.

He noted that the project, estimated to cost about one million dollars, is expected to be completed within a year. According to him, the initiative goes beyond personal celebration and is aimed at making a lasting impact on children’s healthcare.

“If you feel you can support, we will appreciate it… You don’t even have to give me money—bring the stuff and let’s build it,” he added.

The paediatric emergency centre forms the centrepiece of his 50th birthday celebrations and reflects his broader commitment to national development beyond music.
