The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media claiming it awarded an office renovation contract through sole sourcing and purchased laptops at inflated prices.

‎In a statement signed by its Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, the Board described the claims as false and misleading.

‎According to GoldBod, the renovation contract in question was not awarded through sole sourcing as alleged.

‎The Board explained that after its establishment in April 2025, it undertook a recruitment drive that added over 300 employees, creating an urgent need for larger office space.

‎As a result, the former Bank of Ghana Head Office at No. 1 Thorpe Road in Accra was rented to house the new workforce.

‎The building, previously described by the Bank of Ghana as structurally defective, required renovation to make it suitable for use.

‎GoldBod said it sought and received approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) on June 24, 2025, to use the restricted tendering method for the renovation works.

‎Three companies were shortlisted for the tender, with Correca Ghana Limited emerging as the winning bidder.

‎“The claim that the contract was awarded through sole sourcing is completely false,” the statement said, adding that the contractor has completed the works in line with its contractual obligations.

‎The Board also rejected claims that it purchased 15 laptops at an inflated price of GHS322,500.

‎It said the laptops, Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Core i7 models were bought in November 2025 from GET4LESS Ghana Limited at a unit price of GHS21,500, which it says aligns with prevailing market prices.

‎GoldBod noted that approval was obtained from the PPA for a single-source procurement due to the urgent need and the supplier’s capacity to meet the quantity and delivery timeline.

‎The Board reiterated its commitment to transparency, stating that both contracts have been published on its official website.
